Goal setting is important for a lot of reasons. Having goals helps us to stay focused and stay on track in a lot of areas. Wether you are setting goals for projects at work, for things you want to accomplish in your live, or just to keep track of important things, here are some great tips to help you along the way:
* Write All Goals Down
It is very benifitial to write your goals down. The more we see something, the more we will keep focused on it. Having our goals written down somewhere will help us to not loose focus on our priorities.
* Separate Goals into Small, Manageable Steps
First, you should write down your main goals or what it is you would like to accomplish. Write all of your main goals, and then separate each goal into smaller, more manageable steps. For example, if your main goal is to loose 50 lbs, break that down into smaller goals of maybe 5 to 10 lbs at a time. Sometimes when we look at the big picture (in this case loosing 50 lbs), we can get frustrated or feel it is not possible to obtain the main goal. But, if we break that down and say, “I will concentrate on loosing 5lbs first,” it seems more manageable. Then we can just focus on a little at a time without getting overwhelmed. It is also less likely that we will get frustrated and give up if we feel that our goals are realistic and can be obtained.
* Give Each Goal a Timeline
Give yourself a time to accomplish each step. If we don’t give ourselves a timeline, we may tend to drag it on and never reach that goal. Timelines will keep us focused and on track.
* Reward yourself
After each step has been accomplished, reward yourself! Doesn’t matter how great or how small the reward, but do something nice for yourself or buy yourself something nice as a reward. Hey, you worked hard to achieve your goal, and you deserve it.
